Friends, we've almost made it to 2016! But before I wax poetic about the ups + downs of 2015, I think it's best to round out this crazy year with a hefty dose of love.

These two kids, let me tell you... every single moment of the entire day was filled with smiles and laughter. Caitlin + Nathan so obviously love being together—always whispering in each other's ear, which is then quickly followed up with big, gut-busting laughs. The dusky autumn light and unusually warm day made it all the more palpable.

The wedding couldn't have been more them. From the made-to-order sushi chefs ( with a custom pineapple-kimchi wedding roll ) to ending the night by serving up scoops of Chocolate Shoppe ice cream as their version of a receiving line, the entire day was relaxed and FUN. Like, so dang fun. In fact, I think it was the gorgeous bride herself who brought ME a glass of Spotted Cow beer and demanded I drink up on the job.

That night, I remember driving home from the wedding—thrusting the stick shift of my beat-up blue car from first gear to second—and feeling so exhaustedly happy. Like I had just been given a gentle reminder from the universe that few things matter more than family, friends, custom sushi rolls, pizza, ice cream and enjoying the mere presence of the one you love most.

Congratulations, Caitlin + Nathan. xoxo

Oh, Ladycakes

BLOG-OLC-Final22897665306_5f0c67eb9c_z16517669959_6f739a61d3_z

It's been awhile since I've shown any design work, but I'm happy to have FINALLY squeezed in a blog post during the crazy holiday season to show off the new Oh, Ladycakes!

When Ashlae first emailed me about designing her new logo, I was excited not only because I've been following her blog for a long time and want to eat every single vegan thing she makes, but because the lady has serious style. As evidenced by her drop dead amazing wedding dress ( le swoon ), Ashlae has impeccable taste. She's also sassy, wicked smart and an avid traveler, so I had a sneaky feeling we'd get along just fine.

Over the past few months, we've been working on this hand-lettered logo to show off her new website ( developed by Alex, with some styling help from me ). The final result is clean + modern, yet quirky + stylish... and I LOVE IT. Then we spent hours texting back and forth about typeface choices for the website, and that's when I knew I had to make her my friend IRL. I swear to you, people who care about good typography are the best kind of people.

I've included a few of the logo drafts that didn't make the cut below. As you can see, we were going for hand-lettering that felt organic + quirky, but easily readable. I still love the first option below. The swoop from the d to the y, coupled with that loopy k... gah, I love letters.

San Antonio + Links I Love

SanAntonio-BLOG

I spent this past weekend in San Antonio with some of my favorite lady friends.

It was so lovely to get away from the hum-drum of normal life, and spend a few days wandering through a new city. We ate ( here, here + here), we drank ( here + here ), we laughed, we explored, we Alamo-ed, and we were all awake by 7:30am every morning because we're old. Also, it was just humid enough that I rocked big ol' Texas hair all weekend.

Now, it's November 24th and at the risk of sounding cliché...how did that happen?!? I'm not sure about you, but this year seems to have whizzed by like no other. Thanksgiving is in two days, my birthday is in 27 days, Christmas is in 31 days, and we leave for Africa in 54 days. All good stuff, of course, but the ever-quickening passage of time is freaking me out.

If you're in the mood to slow things down like me, here's a few of my favorite links as of late. Make it a happy Thanksgiving, friends.

I breezed through the 10 episodes of Master of None in three days. It's super funny, intelligently written + so on point. Plus, it made me seriously hungry.

Speaking of food, I made this veg recipe last week, and it was delicious.

The world has been a real doozy these past few weeks, but there are helpers out there. My Insta friend Beth started Simply Kind, which connects people to simple, short-term emergency relief projects. If you're in the mood to give back this holiday season, go over + DONATE.

One of my favorite Modern Love essays yet.

...and one of the most fascinating ( and sad ) articles I've read recently.

My new favorite news source.

I took the Myers-Briggs for the 242nd time in my life, and I'm an ENFP every.single.time.

I'm a total hypocrite and bought a pair of these ( on sale now! ).

The new Oh, Ladycakes logo ( which I designed! ) is up on the re-vamped site. You should check it out if for nothing else than Ashlae's recipe for Small Batch Apple Cider Cinnamon Rolls.
