Don't get me wrong—I love me some Target, Madewell, Amazon...the list could go on. But there is nothing quite as special as discovering cute, little shops ( both in-person + online ) that are filled with beautiful things you can't find in bigger chain stores.
Yeah yeah...I know I just extolled the virtues of minimalism + buying less clothes, but the holiday season is upon us, and I quite like supporting the little guys. Plus, Donna + Tom are all about treatin' yo self, and Target now has three aisles of Christmas decorations. It's not even November yet, but we're going with it.
I mean, who doesn't love shops that are locally-owned, give back to the community and have killer design taste? Our choices about where to spend our money are important ones, and I feel good when I can buy from the indie shops who are curating really unique, beautiful things. While I still say it's way too early to start holiday shopping, I'm a firm believer in the occasional because-I-am-awesome-and-deserve-it shopping.
I know Donna + Tom agree.
MOOREA SEAL
This online shop is one of my favorites to browse—a great mix of jewelry, accessories, home goods and lovely stationary. Plus, 7% of all their proceeds go to charity. I love these evil eye earrings, not to mention this beer + food calendar, vintage rug + red agenda.
SHIP & SHAPE
Run by a trio of talented Minneapolis ladies, Ship & Shape is an online boutique with some of the most unique gifts. They're bold and colorful and totally fun. Plus, they have occasional pop-up shops in the Minneapolis area ( which I still have yet to attend! ). I mean, come on...this tumbler. This watermelon card. These tea towels. This brass necklace.
FOUNDRY HOME GOODS
One of the loveliest stores I've ever stepped foot in, this Minneapolis home goods mecca is now selling online. Their products are simple, beautiful and useful, and are curated by the owner herself to encourage a non-disposable lifestyle. Their textiles are my favorite, as are the beeswax candles and lovely ceramics.
