Truthfully, it's been an exhausting semester. My FINAL graduate design show is tomorrow, and there's no shortage of work to be done tying up all the loose ends to get ready for it. However, amidst the end-of-school hustle, my friend Kelly ( who's also in the show + may look a bit familiar ) and I were determined to do a photo shoot. With a floral crown. For FUN.

Fun is not really an operative word used all that often right now; especially not when your future job prospects are heavily determined by the work you present. But fun is probably the most important thing. Because when we lose the fun, we lose our inspiration. It's as simple as that.

So a few weeks ago, the two of us over-tired, slightly delirious student designers ventured into the fresh dusting of snow with the goal of FUN. That and getting Kelly a picture for the about page on her design portfolio website. We're still under deadlines here, people.

And the results are perhaps, some of my favorite photos I've taken yet.

Lesson learned : FUN is always number one. Son of a gun. I want a cinnamon bun.

( like I said, slightly delirious )

AN ODE TO NACHOS

Nachos-Blog

On Wednesday nights, my design school friends + I like to go out after class for a round beers + nachos. With our final portfolio show in just a few days, it's been a good release after weeks and weeks ( and weeks ) of hard work. One night, on a recent outing, a hot plate of those damn good 'chos towered high with salsa, sour cream + guac were delivered to our table by an adorably nice waitress and it hit me.

My man crush Michael Pollan got it all wrong!

When he said "Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants," I'm almost positive he actually meant "Mostly nachos." Or rather, should I say nachos ordered with extra jalapeños + sour cream. Because come on, I'm an American, and there are few dishes that taste better with beer, surrounded by friends + are socially-acceptable to eat with five sides of sour cream.

So this my friends, is my ode to nachos.

WES

When you're best friends start having kids, it's the weirdest and best thing ever.

The weirdest because your best friend is a MOM. A mom who you've known since 4th grade ( not to age us, but that's 20 years ), seen through many awkward hair stages, stood next to in sparkly Jessica McClintock dresses at prom and have slammed down Burger King Rodeo Burgers with drunk at 2am during college. That's friendship, my friends.

And the best because I mean...look at this face! And that baby chambray shirt! Wes is one of the funniest + laid-back kiddos I know, and I completely attribute that to his super cool mom ( and dad, of course ). They are the best parents, and I had so much fun / was so honored they asked me to take shots of the lil' punkin to celebrate his first birthday.

Let me tell you, that kid's a lucky one...not to mention a super cute one too.
