AN ODE TO NACHOS

Nachos-Blog

On Wednesday nights, my design school friends + I like to go out after class for a round beers + nachos. With our final portfolio show in just a few days, it's been a good release after weeks and weeks ( and weeks ) of hard work. One night, on a recent outing, a hot plate of those damn good 'chos towered high with salsa, sour cream + guac were delivered to our table by an adorably nice waitress and it hit me.

My man crush Michael Pollan got it all wrong!

When he said "Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants," I'm almost positive he actually meant "Mostly nachos." Or rather, should I say nachos ordered with extra jalapeños + sour cream. Because come on, I'm an American, and there are few dishes that taste better with beer, surrounded by friends + are socially-acceptable to eat with five sides of sour cream.

So this my friends, is my ode to nachos.

WORK / A NUTRITIONIST EATS

ANE-Blog-FINAL

Please let it be known I have the best clients. And that most certainly includes my lovely friend Emily, the writer, photographer + recipe developer behind the blog A Nutritionist Eats.

Earlier this year, I was so excited when Emily came to me looking for a branding refresh. Not only does the girl whip up a mean brats, sauerkraut + potatoes ( she's from Wisconsin, after all ), but she also has killer style. Together, we decided on a hand-lettered logo that's classic but has a bit of fun California girl thrown in ( see initial moodboard below ). We kept a neutral color scheme with a pop of peach, and I gouache-painted a breezy logo that has just enough quirk.

Take a look at her blog to see it live! And while you're there, the Lentils with Curried Tarka are delicious and the very first recipe of hers I ever made. She's a good one, that Emily.

REFRESH

HA-Refresh-New

Here she is in all her mustard yellow glory...my new site!

I've spent the greater part of this year ignoring the fact that my blog looked super blah. Let's be honest, we were all thinking it. That's the thing about putting off inevitable tasks though—they continue to haunt you until you finally do them and do them well. Catholic guilt at its finest.

While this website is still in progess, I do have an updated about page, a semi-completed info page, a non-functioning shop, and a brand new contact form. Self-branding is one of the hardest things I've had to do, and I'm happy with how my new site + collateral pieces are coming along. Designing for yourself is the worst, but it all feels like me so far, which is a very good sign.

There's lots more to come—including my design portfolio ( !!! ), a revamped blog sidebar, and lots of posts I've been waiting to share with you. Until then, poke around the site + see what's new while I go re-binge-watch the new season of The Mindy Project for the third time because I am obsessed with Diamond Dan.

(  ^^^ ahem, you're welcome ^^^ )
