Summer seems to be flying by in a dizzying whirl of weddings, bachelorette parties, baby showers and work. I guess that's what happens when you're 28. But seriously, it's July 9th and the relaxing three days I spent over the 4th of July in St. Louis seem so far away already. Totally not fair.

But it was a good fourth! Filled with kiddos, pool time, cannonball competitions, food hot off the grill, margaritas, bomb pops (!!!), SPF and catching up my belovedly trashy US Weekly magazine. Plus, I devoted myself to carrying around my camera and practicing shooting the holiday, because I'm still working on my photography. The weekend ended with an epic wedding where I got myself entangled in a dance-off and hanging out with one of my best friends in town from California.

You might say the holiday didn't last nearly long enough.

EVP COFFEE IPHONE APP

I had naively high hopes of blogging my spring semester of graphic design projects in a super responsible, timely fashion. But here I am finally blogging from a pizza joint near my house, shoving BBQ chicken pizza in my mouth and guzzling coffee on July 2nd. My car died this morning, I leave for St. Louis in 30 minutes and the work I should be getting done, well...isn't.

That, my friends, is life.

But I am super excited to share this project I did for my Applied Computer Graphics class earlier this semester. We were tasked with designing an iPhone app for one of two local Madison businesses. This project required us to design an app and corresponding app website landing page that aligned with the company's mission, vision and overall branding.

Since I love coffee far more than I love working out, I chose EVP and started sketching out a clean, modern app with a heavy focus on icons. This was my first foray into icon design, but I really love the way my coffee icons turned out (especially the French press). For the project, we designed three pages of the entire iPhone app. I tried my best to utilize the icons as much as possible throughout those pages while mirroring their softness + simplicity in other design elements.

I am happy with the way it turned out and look forward to refining it for my final portfolio. But that can wait until later...because it's 4th of July weekend!

See you soon St. Louie.

Since I got my new camera, I haven't practiced with it as much as I would like to. That is why I've been making an effort to shoot more and practice harder to become a better photographer. Family get-togethers...working weekends...boudoir sessions...leisurely breakfasts...weddings...dinner dates. It's all been happening lately, and I've been trying to document it all through the lens.

P.S. It is of the utmost importance to note that French toast was perhaps the best of my entire life. As a total French toast snob, I was blown away by the grilled-to-perfection apple bread topped with gingered apples + spiced Wisconsin heavy cream. Gah, gimme more right now.
