FOXY

Foxy

Well helllllooooo! I wanted to start this post with an obnoxious come-on, since it seems phrases using the word "foxy" are ubiquitous when it comes to the Internet. Did you know "foxy shazam" is a thing? I had no idea the wonders of the world wide web could bring me such knowledge.

Anyways...

Last semester, one of the toughest classes I took was Illustration. I am not a born illustrator, so taking an entire class that forced my hand into drawing honestly left me feeling a lot of rage as I struggled to make my work look passable. However, I had a really great teacher who assigned us projects that incorporated illustration in a variety of mediums. One of those mediums was linocut, which refers to the printmaking process of carving out a linoleum block and inking the surface to create a relief print.

Essentially, here's how my fox went down: first, I drew a sketch. Then I traced over it with black marker and transferred the inked sketch onto a linoleum block. Next, I carefully carved out the areaa I didn't want to show up with a Speedball, drank a beer, said a prayer and inked up the linoleum block with letterpress ink. To finish, I used a proofing press to transfer it to paper.

And voila! Classy monocled foxes!

Here are my actual prints fresh off the press in shades of both black + green. If you are interested in buying one, email me at hollyawhittlef@gmail.com. I still have a few left and am also happy to print these sophisticated, cricket-loving foxies in whatever color(s) your heart desires.

Last October, I photographed my very first wedding. To say that I was nervous about it would be a gross understatement, but I was so very lucky in the fact that the bride + groom happen to be my friends. For some people, that might make photographing their wedding more nerve-wracking. But for me, it was comforting to know and shoot the people that I enjoy so much.

I think I've said most of what I can about Lauren + Shawn in my other two posts ( they've so graciously allowed me to practice my photography skills multiple times ). But if you can't already tell from the pictures, I will reaffirm that they're charismatic, hilarious + happily in love. The whole day was happy, full of love and Wisconsin beer and inappropriate dancing.

Ya know, the really good stuff.

Happy 4-month wedding anniversary my friends, I look forward to seeing you at happy hour next week. Margaritas on me.

TYPE LOVE / 1

Type

February is here, and that means I am getting ready to embark on a few new design projects involving hand-drawn type. IT'S MY FAVORITEST THING EVER.

Two of the projects are wedding invitations ( yup, we're going there again ), so I've been culling necessary inspiration over the past few weeks to get me started. My focus for the invitations is gorgeous typography that's serenely beautiful and offers a bit of quirk. It just so happens both clients fit that bill...which happens to my bill...which will hopefully result in my bills getting paid.

Oh yes, happy Monday to me.
